"Mersha"
This piece was made to emulate a piece of DVD packaging for an animated movie. My goal was to create something clean while also maintaining an artistic feel, creating a design that communicates the feel, characters, setting, and themes of the hypothetical film in question.
The style of the art used is lineless, done for the sake of using a style that could reasonably be animated while still maintaining quality of art. The piece was made to portray a level of fun and adventure while having a degree of depth to it, akin to a Studio Ghibli film
The character in focus, Mersha, is one I created for use here. She is small and frog-like, giving her a sense of messiness akin to a witch, while still maintaining an aura of sweetness. Her age was chosen to make her akin to a grandmother, a figure that many audiences, young and old, could relate to. I chose to give her a large bird to ride to create a sense of contrast for the piece, between the small frog woman and her large steed. This achieves giving a size dynamic to the piece alongside implementing more fantasy elements, helping communicate the setting of the film.
